To actively participate in the SSI 101b Learning Lab, follow these simple steps to create a Cardano wallet:

There are several Cardano wallet providers, each offering unique features and user interfaces. Research and select a reputable and user-friendly wallet provider that aligns with your preferences. Here are some recommended options to get you started:

Change is in the air and I am excited to share proposals for funding using the innovative Catalyst Challenge system within the Cardano Ecosystem. As a lifelong learner and tech enthusiast, I am thrilled to throw my hat in the ring and possibly be hired by the community to contribute towards goals that we share.

By doing this work in the open, with tutorials, and open source code we are building the foundations for new AI driven user-onboarding, education, customer support, technical support, media and PR assistance, that can be leveraged and used by many other projects.

DAOGEN is also an ideal sandbox for exploring the application of new primitives for building decentralized identity applications, unlocked by Atala PRISM V2. In particular, we will build a new construct, the Self Sovereign Social Graph, and build an SDK enabling any application to offer social networking capabilities built on top of the DID, and DIDComm V2 standards, implemented by Atala PRISM V2. By testing this in the fictional world of the DAOGEN, we can expose players to new technology in a fun way, while also learning about the user experience of owning and managing a social-graph.

Excitement fills the air as we proudly announce our first Catalyst proposal submission! We have set our sights on the Open Source Dev Ecosystem challenge, driven by our passion for education and the transformative potential of Web3 technology. In this blog post, we'll share the motivations behind our proposal, our vision for a Student Reader developed mini-coding-bootcamp providing hands on experience developing a very specific type of smart contract, an Identity Aware Smart Contract.

This powerful construct, integrating decentralized identity, with an Oracle, facilitating trusted interactions with a smart-contract, unlocks an incredible diversity of product concepts and innovation. We want to have specific impact by focusing this course on a simple use case, Integrating Atala PRISM SSI infrastructure using the AIKEN smart-contract programming language, to create a simple Student Scholarship Smart Contract. We hope this will be a valuable example code and use-case to harden and deploy into many other projects in varieties of industries. The design pattern combining decentralized identity, oracles, and smart-contracts has not been deeply explored in production use cases, this is an opportunity to put code into production, learn how it works, and how this simple idea can be refined and extended.

This pattern is being deployed as a version one for the Atala PRISM Foundations of Decentralized Identity Learner-to-Earner program, where we have created the Ecosystem Governance Framework, and the Digital Trust Governance Framework, under which all Student Reader programs operate.

This Catalyst Fund 10 Proposal is intended to build a version two of the Oracle and Smart Contract, taking lessons learned from the first deployment, at the same time as providing the educational material and code for the second version or the Oracle and Smart Contract as a community open source asset. This time being built with the latest from Atala PRISM V2, along with the acclaimed AIKEN smart contract programming language.

Discovering AIKEN

During the Continuum Web3 conference in Miami, inspiration struck. A panel discussion introduced us to AIKEN, a promising smart contract language within the Cardano ecosystem. Recognizing its immense potential, we immediately envisioned the next step in our Learner-to-Earner journey. We realized that building a course focused on foundational knowledge about Smart Contracts, with a practical example being used as the Oracle and Student Scholarship Smart Contract showcasing Atala PRISM and the AIKEN smart contract language, this could be a game-changer for aspiring developers, and introduce completely new functionality, and a modern implementation, to the Cardano developer ecosystem!

The Funding Imperative

Why do we seek funding at this moment? As a newcomer to the Web3 technology space, our Learner-to-Earner vision was initially clouded by uncertainties. We needed tangible progress to validate the feasibility of our goals. Now, having witnessed the unfolding journey and proven the potential of Web3 technology, we are confident in our ability to make a real impact. The success of our Atala PRISM Foundations of Decentralized Identity 101 course, which we bootstrapped, and the lessons we learned have given us the confidence to streamline our scholarship funding process. By securing funding, we can focus on building the course content while ensuring a sustainable scholarship program through efficient treasury management.

Vision for the Smart Contract Learner-to-Earner Program

Our vision is ambitious yet driven by the belief that education should be accessible to all. We aspire to see over 500 students purchase the course reader, dive into the course, and earn the coveted course completion credential. Furthermore, we aim to fund at least 100 scholarships, each worth $400 USD, from the proceeds of the Student Reader NFT book sales. We understand that scholarships can only be sustained through donations and sales of NFTs. As our treasury grows, we will fund as many scholarships as possible, empowering learners to take their educational journey to new heights.

We are passionate about fostering education and embracing Web3 technology to democratize access to knowledge. StudentReader started off as an experiment created by Laura Brugioni with mentoring and technical support provided by Tony Rose. The project started almost a year ago during the summer of 2022, while at the CNFT Conference and at Rare Bloom, the idea bubbled out of the potential to collaborate in interesting and meaningful ways to progress the missions of the community, using the technology and creativity coming from within the community, and Book.io had just launched!

Thus was born this idea to mint NFT books with book.io that would have specific utility:

• Be a book, in this case student course readers, that can be truly owned.

• Funding a Trust, for a student scholarship treasury, using Summon Platform multi-signature wallet technology.

• Providing access to an NFT Gate Online Learning Environment, in this case, the Atala PRISM Pioneer Program served using the Canvas LMS.

• Establish Learner-to-Earner Ecosystem Governance Framework for distribution of funds to eligible students.

• Demonstrate open ecosystem principles by adopting Atala PRISM Pioneer Program 101 Course Completion credential for student scholarship eligibility.

• Integration of an Oracle and Smart-Contract powered by Marlowe, to pay out scholarships for eligible students.

Governance Frameworks

Governance frameworks for decentralized identity ecosystems play a critical role in establishing a new ecosystem, and setting it up for success over the long term. Getting the key stakeholders aligned around financial and other incentives is critical to establishing a Minimum Viable Ecosystem. This is why we have dedicated significant time and energy into creating governance frameworks for our program that can be applied in other contexts. We did a podcast with Continuum Loop who helped us to develop the Learner-to-Earner Ecosystem Governance Framework.

You may be familiar with the Atala PRISM Launch Ecosystem Challenge for Catalyst Fund 10, these are the types of governance frameworks the challenge is designed to fund, but we’ve already got ours finished and ready to share with the community as an example that can be used to grow other ecosystems.

Digital Trust and Smart Contract Disbursement

To ensure transparent and efficient management of our funds, the scholarship funding is being administered through a Multi-Signature Wallet on the Cardano blockchain, using Summon Platform technology. This secure infrastructure, coupled with an Identity Oracle, and a smart contract for disbursement, guarantees that scholarship funds are allocated transparently, and cost-effectively to eligible students.

Growing Treasury and Achievements

Thanks to the support from our Cardano Community, we are delighted to share that our treasury is growing from the sales of the vNFT, (public address of the Multisig here) there are still plenty of books available so share with your friends and we can continue to grow the treasury and knowledge about decentralized identity together! While the treasury is growing at a steady pace, we express our gratitude to all those who have contributed. Your support is instrumental in furthering our mission of enabling educational opportunities for students.

Scholarship Funding and Collaborations

The Learner-to-Earner journey is gaining momentum, and we are excited to announce our collaboration with Marlowe! This partnership is a significant step forward in our scholarship distribution efforts. With this collaboration, we are well-equipped to identify and support our first 10 students from our goal of 100 students, who will be the pioneers of our Learner-to-Earner program.

We are working closely with PLP (Power Learn Project) and Adanian Labs to identify students who are passionate about Web3 technology. Once selected, we will provide them with student credentials using ProofSpace integrated into Atala PRISM technology, and air drop them the Foundations of Decentralized Identity vNFT. The vNFT ensures access to the AP 101 course offered through the Atala Prism Pioneer Program. Upon successful completion of the course, students will receive a course completion credential, marking an important milestone in their Web3 education, they can use to interact with the Oracle and Smart Contract to receive the scholarship award.
